Israel Guidance

The Israel Guidance department of HAFTR facilitates the process of planning to spend a year of study in Israel. The Israel year has proven to be one of the most significant experiences for our graduates. All of the Jewish values that are essential to HAFTR’s Modern Orthodox Religious Zionist mission are enhanced by a year of study in Israel. Students meet with Rabbi Wienerkur to discuss this important decision. Parents are also welcome to make appointments to discuss as well.

Appropriate schools based upon academics, location, school size and social setting will be suggested. In November, Israeli representatives of the programs will visit the US for recruitment. Parents and students are encouraged to attend Long Island Israel night to hear from the representatives.

Applications for most schools can be found on Applytosem.org (girls) or Yeshivaapplication.org (boys).

Students should ask two teachers to serve as references. The teacher receives an email from the website and fills out the recommendation online. Student transcripts and medical forms are scanned and uploaded to the website. Interviews with the respective schools are set up through the Israel guidance office and take place in HAFTR. Students will receive acceptance letters via email.  Girls need to commit to the school of their choice by mid-February while boys need to do so by mid-March.

Rabbi Wienerkur can be reached at [email protected].
We look forward to meeting with you.
