Our school’s Nurse is Dalit Kalaie and her office is located next to the Multi-Purpose Room. The nurse supervises administration of medication to students with a 504C, sees students in need of emergency care, and attends to students who get sick or injured. It is important for parents to know that we cannot administer any medication or give medicine to a student, not even Aspirin or Tylenol, without written authorization in the form of a physician’s note.
Please reach out to Nurse Kalaie with any questions or concerns via email: firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone: 516 – 569 – 6352, ext. 410.
Nut, Peanut & Sesame Policy
HAFTR makes every effort to be a nut and sesame free school in order to ensure that all children are safe. We urge you to check all ingredients on food sent into school. If someone other than you packs your child’s snack or lunch, please show him/her which foods at home can never be sent to school.
We have compiled a safe snack list (see attachment Appendix D) which is intended to serve as a guideline to help you comply with HAFTR’s NO PEANUT, TREE NUT and SESAME policy. We understand that if you do not personally need to shop in this manner for your family, that this can be a daunting task and responsibility. This guide is intended to make your shopping easier. While this list provides an effective tool for keeping these allergens out of the classroom, you should not rely solely on the guide to protect a child with food allergies. Please continue to read food labels as manufacturers may change their ingredients or processes at any time without warning or notice to the consumer.
Additionally, there are many children with severe food allergies to items beyond peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame, so it is important to not refer to the items on this list as “allergen free,” so those with allergies to other items, such as milk, egg or wheat, do not inadvertently assume that these items are safe for all allergies. This list provides a good starting point to help keep our HAFTR students safe and included.
To help us make HAFTR a safe environment for all students, we ask for your cooperation in doing the following:
- Please do not send snacks that contain peanuts, peanut flour, peanut oil, or peanut butter or other nuts or sesame. This includes snacks with almonds, filberts, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nut, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts.
- Please read labels carefully to make sure the products are peanut, tree nut and sesame free. This includes labels that contain peanut, tree nut and sesame as an ingredient and labels that read “May contain traces of...”
- Please read labels not only for daily snacks, but also for any food you send to school for any occasion such as class treats you may send for Shabbat parties birthdays, holidays, field trips or other special events.
Two bakeries which are peanut, tree nut and sesame free are Bagel Town and Zucker Bakers.
