Jewish education has historically been one of the single most important factors in Jewish survival. We believe this is especially true today for modern orthodox Jews to continue to flourish as a people. Teaching values, tradition and Torah – the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway is a vital force shaping the educational, cultural and religious environment of our future.
HAFTR is committed to ensuring the highest quality Judaic and general education possible. To that end the role of the development office is to find ways to meet the increasing gap between affordable tuition and the cost of bringing quality education to our students.
Fundraising allows us to offer financial aid to families in need, provide outstanding programming for our students, and help us retain a gifted and well-trained faculty. Our goal of providing a quality education for our students is only possible if we maintain our high level of fundraising activity. We are constantly exploring new approaches to our fundraising activities and attempting to expand our donor base. We are always open to fresh ideas and new avenues for raising revenue.
To make a donation or volunteer your time for fundraising, please contact Jennifer Zwiebel, Director, Public Relations and Alumni Relations, in our administration office:
HAFTR was established in 1978 as a merger between two outstanding South Shore yeshivot. The Hebrew Institute of Long Island (HILI) served the Rockaway and budding five towns community since 1936, and the Hillel School was founded in 1957 to serve the growing needs of the Long Island and Rockaway communities. Throughout our tremendous growth and expansion, our Yeshiva has been able to maintain the warm feelings of closeness that have been our trademark.
Now in our 72nd Year - four times Chai - HAFTR's Alumni Relations Office is dedicated to developing initiatives for our alumni. Our goal is to harness the assets of our graduates to strengthen our yeshiva. While our alumni are wide-ranging and diverse, they all share the fond memories and excellent education received from HAFTR. We want to continue sharing in the lives of our alumni and ask that you submit information to help update our database. Volunteers are also needed to serve as Class Ambassadors for reunion and alumni event planning and research.
It is our hope to keep you and your fellow alumni up-to-date on the exciting happenings in school. By keeping the lines of communication open, we can share our memories as well as build a stronger school for our future alumni.
