HAFTR was established in 1978 as a merger between two outstanding South Shore yeshivot. The Hebrew Institute of Long Island (HILI) served the Rockaway and budding five towns community since 1936, and the Hillel School was founded in 1957 to serve the growing needs of the Long Island and Rockaway communities. HAFTR is an Orthodox yeshiva with the Torah as the foundation of its philosophy. HAFTR educates students from age two to twelfth grade to be b'nei/b'not Torah in modern society who will love Hashem, study Torah, observe halacha and connect to the Jewish nation, the Hebrew language and Medinat Yisrael. Our students are guided to be responsible and sensitive to all members of the larger American and global communities. HAFTR cultivates each student's unique talents within a program of academic excellence in Judaic and General Studies and through a rich array of extra-curricular activities. Our graduates will be prepared for life: to learn and to lead. Our Co-Presidium are Mark Honigsfeld and Yaron Kornblum, our Chairman of the Board is Dr. Adam Lish, our Chairman of the Board of Education is Adam Kaufman and our Executive Director is Reuben Maron. In addition, HAFTR High School has two new administrators, Mrs. Rochelle Brand, Principal of HAFTR Middle School and Rabbi Dr. Steven Eisenberg, HAFTR Lower School Judaic Studies Director. We also have in place an outstanding team of principals for our Early Childhood, Lower, Middle and High School divisions. Mrs. Cyndy Goldberg is our Early Childhood Director. Our Lower School Principal is Ms. Joy Hammer. Rabbi Dovid Kupchik is our Middle School Menahel. Ms. Naomi Lippman is our High School General Studies Principal and Rabbi Gedaliah Oppen is our High School Judaic Studies Principal. This high caliber leadership team and our superb teachers are ready to meet the challenges that lay ahead and plan for the future to make HAFTR an even greater yeshiva than it is today! |
